This free, 70-minute webinar explores how regions can assess and manage cumulative mining impacts across multiple operations and development stages.
The webinar is aimed at professionals in environmental, social and health impact assessment as well as those involved in planning and policy related to mine closure and managers of various aspects of mining operations. It should be of particular interest to those addressing geographical areas (up to thousands of square kilometers) where multiple mines are operating or there is mining as well as other forms of resource development. The session will begin with an overview of ‘RCEAM’ – a concept developed to capture a view of environmental, social, economic, cultural and health impacts of mine planning, operations and closure at the regional scale with particular attention to understanding and managing cumulative impacts of multiple operations. Following that will be sections on hurdles and opportunities for collaboration in implementing RCEAM in regionals with mines at various stages of development and discussion of regional ‘readiness’ for RCEAM. There will also be an overview of stages in RCEAM and Indigenous involvement in RCEAM.
