Courses span introductory to advanced levels across all areas of impact assessment
IAIA is currently accepting proposals for training courses to be held in conjunction with IAIA27: “Ka mua, ka muri: Looking back for the future of impact assessment.” The courses are set to take place in-person in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 18-19 April 2027. Courses will focus on impact assessment and topics related to the conference theme and local region.
While courses themselves can be presented in any language, interested applicants are requested to submit their course proposals in English. Applicants are advised to review the submission guidelines in the call for training course proposals, along with these tips and comments for additional details. The deadline for submissions is 10 June 2026.

Who can register? Training courses are open to anyone who registers and pays by the registration deadline. If you are not also registered for the conference, you must pay an additional US$90 non-delegate fee.
Who teaches the courses? Primarily IAIA members. All course proposals are vetted by IAIA’s Training and Professional Development Committee and approved by the Board of Directors, so you can be assured these are experienced, qualified professionals.
What is the class size? Minimum/maximum class sizes are noted in each course description. If the course you choose does not reach the minimum number by the preliminary deadline, IAIA HQ will notify you and provide refund information or offer to transfer you to another course.
Where are courses held? In person at the conference venue each year.
How much do the courses cost and what is included? IAIA’s one-day courses are $285; two-day courses are US$485. The cost includes course materials, light lunches, and coffee breaks.
Can I add a training course later? If you have already registered for the conference but want to add a training course, you can login to your account and add the course. Please contact info@iaia.org with questions. Any additions must be made by the registration deadline.
What if I need to cancel my course registration? If you must cancel, your course registration fee will be refunded minus a US$125 administrative fee, provided you send written notification to IAIA HQ by the registration deadline. No refunds will be given after the deadline.
Some details for when you arrive onsite: Check-in for the training courses will be available at the IAIA registration desk in the conference venue. Name tags will be distributed at check-in and are required for admission to courses. Check-in the day before your course begins is encouraged.
