I’m Meeta Acharya, and I’m from Nepal.
How is being a member of IAIA valuable to you?
Being a member of IAIA has given me the opportunity to learn from other professionals working in different parts of the world. Being a member also gives you the opportunity to be connected through a platform called the IAIA Hub, where you can share your ideas and also learn from each other. It’s very valuable.
What is one thing you enjoy about your current job/role?
I work in the Nepal Electricity Authority, which is a semi-government organization. I’m involved in compliance monitoring of donor-funded projects, especially from the Asian Development Bank. I love my job as a compliance monitor. Also I ensure that projects are operated sustainably and according to safeguard requirements. So I love that.
What is one tip or recommendation you have for new IA professionals?
Impact assessment is a very broad field, and also emerging and expanding. So for new professionals who want to join this field, I suggest they enhance their expertise through different, new technologies that are emerging in this field, and just be respectful of their jobs and responsibilities, and do justice to their work, because impact assessment is a decision tool, so it’s very important. I suggest they learn from the other professionals who are already there and also be adaptable to the new technologies that are emerging. That would be my tip for them.
Would you recommend IAIA to other professionals?
Of course I recommend IAIA to some of my colleagues, my juniors, and also some of my professional peers working with me in my organization. I am also a member of the affiliate organization in my country, the Nepal Association of Impact Assessment. So I also meet other people and professional practitioners there, and I definitely recommend they become members of IAIA.
