For a brief overview of Psycho-Social Impact Assessment (PSIA) and 10 key things to know and do, download FasTips: Psycho-Social Impact Assessment.

Psycho-social impacts are the social and psychological effects of major environmental or societal changes on individuals and communities. They influence mental health, daily life, and perceptions of fairness, trust, and security. These impacts often stem from natural disasters, industrial pollution, or historical marginalization. As a result, they can weaken resilience, increase stress, and disrupt community support systems.

PSIA evaluates these effects to reduce harm, strengthen coping mechanisms, and promote fairness. It achieves this through participatory processes, a focus on vulnerable populations, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
