     1. IAIA19 information—final program available

    IAIA19 will be held 29 April – 2 May 2019 in Brisbane, Australia, with training courses and technical visits planned for 27-28 April and 3-5 May. #iaia19

    Registration is now closed, and the final program is available online.

    Why is Brisbane talking about revolution?      2. Annual General Meeting announced; annual report released

    IAIA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place Wednesday, 1 May, from 12:40-13:30 in Room M1 of the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. IAIA members and all conference participants are encouraged to attend this annual business meeting of the Association. The agenda includes meeting the IAIA Board of Directors, hearing the Treasurer’s report, and witnessing the presentation of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

    IAIA’s 2018 annual report, “Changes,” has just been released. Have a quick read about the great work being done by Innovation Grant recipients; a snapshot of our finances and investments; a look back at the conferences, symposia, fun that was had in 2018, and more.


     3. IAPA Best Paper of 2018 announced

    The editorial board of IAIA’s journal, Impact Assessment and Project Appraisal, has selected Ilse Aucamp and Antoinette Lombard’s paper, “Can social impact assessment contribute to social development outcomes in an emerging economy?” as the best paper of 2018. The article can be found in IAPA 36(2) 173-185. IAIA members, log in to access the article for free.


     4. IAIA opens executive office in Washington, DC

    IAIA is pleased to announce the opening of an executive office in Washington, DC, USA. This office houses Executive Director David Bancroft and is convenient to many of IAIA’s partners. The address is IAIA Executive Office, 1200 18th Street NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20036-2531 USA. Telephone:+1 202 567 7410. The headquarters office and staff in Fargo continues to handle day-to-day operations, while the new executive office focuses on partnerships, fund raising, and policy.


     5. Headquarters closed 19 April – 12 May

    The IAIA headquarters office will close on Tuesday, 23 April, and will remain closed through the conference. The office will re-open on Monday, 13 May.  


     6. Upcoming Branch, Affiliate, and Associated Organization events

    AQEI (IAIA-Québec, Canada, Affiliate) Save the date for the 27th annual conference of the AQEI. 9-10 May 2019, Montréal Center-Ville, Québec, Canada. The theme will be devoted to the issue of inclusion in impact assessment. Information will be posted at https://www.aqei.qc.ca/ as it becomes available.

    APAI (IAIA-Portugal Affiliate): “The International Workshop on Environmental and Health Impacts of Nuclear Power Life Extension” is an initiative of IAIA in co-operation with the UNECE (Secretariat of the Espoo Convention and the Protocol on SEA) and APAI, with the support of the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). The workshop will take place on 5 June in Lisbon at the IST (Anfiteatro Abreu Faro), and aims to create a space for an open discussion on the life extension of nuclear power plants through a technical and scientific perspective, looking particularly for environmental and health impacts, to recognize and share various perspectives from different stakeholders.     The next National Impact Assessment Conference (CNAI'19), with the theme "Teaching and Research in Impact Assessment," will be held 7-9 November 2019 at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC), in a partnership between the Portuguese Impact Assessment Association (APAI), FCTUC's Department of Earth Sciences (DCT), and the Center Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDRC).     ABAI (IAIA Brazil Affiliate):  The next Brazilian Congress of Impact Assessment (CBAI) will take place in Vitória, ES, in 2020.     “Health Impact Assessment (HIA) Institutionalization and Multisectoral Collaboration in Europe” (pre-conference to the European Public Health Conference) will take place 20 November in Marseille, France. This pre-conference aims to strengthen the knowledge on HIA in Europe, share experiences in institutionalizing HIA, discuss the use of HIA in environmental assessments and other impact assessments, and share the latest research on HIA.
