    10. Other upcoming events

The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is pleased to invite you and your colleagues for a training program on Social Impact Assessment (SIA) from 18-22 December 2017, at the Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI) in Nimli, (Alwar) Rajasthan. SIA is an important tool for informed decision-makers, regulators and stakeholders, used for evaluating the possible social and economic impacts of a proposed project and thus requires active involvement of all concerned stakeholders. CSE recognizes this need and has developed a hands-on five-day training program aimed at giving practical exposure to participants on SIA with specific reference to development projects, such as infrastructure, mining and other. The program will also impart understanding of the issues and challenges in land acquisition, enhance skills in socio-economic surveys, consultations, data collection, planning land acquisition and rehabilitation and resettlement plan. The course would also discuss applicable central/state laws such as Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA), The Forest Rights Act, 2006, and the Companies Acts, 2013 and their significance to the overall process of SIA. For a more detailed listing of the training course program, visit the website. Please send any inquiries to Arjunvir Kol Chak at arjunvir.chak@cseindia.org.

The Canadian Institute of Planners, in partnership with the Manitoba Professional Planners Institute, is hosting its 2018 National Conference in Winnipeg (19-22 July 2018).  Recognizing that city and community building crosses many disciplines, the 2018 conference is inviting participation from all its allied professions (architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, transportation planning, archaeology, environmental science, real estate development, legal, governance, etc.) to join planners from across Canada in dialogue about the core issues that shape our communities. The theme of the 2018 Conference is SOUL â€“ focusing on how culture, the environment, social dynamics and history shape the SOUL of our communities.
