    5. IA Professional Recognition Survey: Take part today!

As one of IAIA’s Innovation Grant recipients, Fothergill Training & Consulting is conducting a survey about how the skills and experience of impact assessment professionals are recognized around the world. We invite you to participate in the survey by 29 June and share the link with colleagues: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/IAProfessionalRecognition

The survey will gather information about country- and financial institution-specific recognition and accreditation schemes for individuals involved in project-related ESHIA (ESIA and EIA). The research aims to produce a global first:  the initial Compendium of IA Professional Recognition Schemes. If you know of an IA-related professional recognition scheme, we urge you to share your knowledge, for the benefit of the global IA community, by taking the time to complete the research survey.

The survey is open to all through 29 June. Please feel free to share this link and/or text with your colleagues, wider networks, and on social media.

    6. Vincent-Akpu honored by US embassy; selected for TechWomen program

Congratulations to IAIA member Ijeoma Vincent-Apku, who was among the five Nigerian women in the science and technology world honored by the US Government and selected to participate in the 2017 TechWomen exchange program.

    7. Bloggers wanted!

IAIA is seeking guest contributors for our blog ImpactREACT. In exchange for writing a short blog post, not only will you gain additional exposure and credibility both within and outside of the Association, but following your post, you also have the potential to use our networking tool, IAIAConnect, to get to know members you may not have previously met and discuss their feedback. IAIA is an engaged, opinionated, growing, professional family, and what we like best is to connect with each other. If you are interested, please contact Jennifer Howell at IAIA Headquarters for additional information and guidelines.

    9. Resource: New IFC website

In honor of World Environment Day June 5, IFC is pleased to announce the launch of its redesigned website on sustainability to help make IFC resources on sustainability easier to access. In addition to some of IFC’s most sought-after resources—IFC’s Environmental and Social Performance Standards, Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines, Corporate Governance Framework, and Corporate Governance Methodology—the site brings together materials from across IFC that translate its decades of hands-on experience into practical guidance for companies and financial institutions. Initiatives are organized by industries: agribusiness, finance, and infrastructure, and on Corporate Governance.

The site features the latest good-practice materials, including a handbook on managing risks related to use of security forces as well as From Companies to Markets - Global Developments in Corporate Governance. IFC offers regular webinars on good ESG practice through the site. A new page on ESG Accountability captures IFC’s approach to engaging with stakeholders, continuous learning from successes and failures, and highlights IFC’s transparency and accountability mechanisms.

    10. Work Experience Program seeks applicants

The IAIA Work Experience Program allows members who complete specific projects of benefit to IAIA to be recognized through: a) a certificate acknowledging their work, and b) the ability to include that project as professional work on their CV.

We are currently looking to develop an annotated links page of relevant impact assessment (1) mandates and regulations, (2) guidance documents (including internal agency protocols), (3) legal rulings, and (4) literature to assist practitioners with fulfilling legal, professional, and ethical obligations.

Applicants can be of any age or experience level, but must be current IAIA members. Requirements for specific skills will be listed for each project. Projects may be proposed by headquarters, sections, committees, affiliates, or individuals and will encompass a range of activities, such as data compilation or analysis, qualitative research, literature review, document translation, and database development.

Information about the program, including the Work Experience Program Guide, a list of available projects, and the proposed project submission form, can be found online.

    11. Request for proposals: SIA-brownfields community plan

A University of South Florida faculty member was recently awarded a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to develop a brownfields area-wide plan for the University Area Community in Hillsborough County, Florida. As part of the effort, USF is seeking to create a social impact assessment to examine the potential impacts of social challenges for brownfields planning and redevelopment on the community. Paul Cleveland, a Senior Purchasing Agent with the University of South Florida, is seeking proposals for this assessment. If interested, please contact Paul directly.
