    1.  IAIA17 updates

    IAIA17, “Impact Assessment’s Contribution to the Global Efforts in Addressing Climate Change,” will be held 4-7 April 2017 in Montréal, Canada.  For more information, visit the conference website. #iaia17

    22 February:  Photo contest submissions due

    Upcoming registration deadline: Be sure to register by 13 January to take advantage of the discounted early bird rates. After 13 January, regular rates will apply. All presenting authors are required to register by 13 January to appear on the program.

    Young Professionals Bursaries available: Up to 15 Young Professionals Bursaries will be awarded in the form of waived registration fees. Applicants must be 30 years of age or younger, have never before attended an IAIA conference, and be living and working in a low-income/middle-income economy. Applications are due 15 February. Find full application details, as well as other IAIA17 opportunities for students and young professionals, on the IAIA17 website

    Climate change photo contest: IAIA members and affiliate members are invited to compete in the IAIA17 Photo Contest, focusing on the theme of climate change. Illustrate the many aspects affected by climate change and the efforts made to mitigate its effects and adapt by sharing great photos of people, communities, natural environments, events, and more from all over the world. The winning photos will be displayed at the IAIA17 conference and will also be published on the websites of IAIA and AQÉI. Get full details online, and submit your photos by 22 February.

    Sponsorship:  There are still many opportunities to sponsor IAIA17.  The delegate bags, pens, fun run, and more are still available, as are several theme forums and concurrent sessions.  Or select from a variety of theme forums and concurrent sessions to sponsor.  More information, including a Sponsorship Opportunities Brochure noting benefits offered to sponsors, is available online.

    2. Resettlement Symposium updates

    An IAIA Special Symposium on Resettlement and Livelihoods will be held 20-22 February 2017 in Manila, Philippines.  For more information, visit the symposium website. The local host and partner for this event is the Asian Development Bank.  #iaiasymposium​

    Applications for training courses due 22 December: Three post-symposium training courses will be held 23-24 February. Courses are offered free-of-charge thanks to ADB, World Bank, and the University of the Philippines. However, due to limited availability, an application process is required for course attendance. To apply for a training course, please complete the application form by 22 December 2016.

    Registration nearing maximum capacity: If you are interested in participating in this symposium, we encourage you to register soon! The event is nearing maximum capacity and is likely to close before the posted registration deadline. 


    3. IAIA16 proceedings: Videos, presentations, and more

    Check out the IAIA16 proceedings page for presentations, final reviewed papers, photos, and more.  

    Two videos have recently been posted: IAIA member Maria Partidário discussed resilience and sustainability during her opening plenary keynote address, and IAIA16 co-chair Sachihiko Harashina delivered the inaugural Charlie Wolf Memorial Lecture, which introduced the unique environmental, social, and cultural features of the conference location.

    5. New Associated Organization: University Institute of IA, Punjabi University

    IAIA is delighted to announce a new Associated Organization

    University Institute of Impact Assessment (Punjabi University, Patiala, India): The University Institute of Impact Assessment (UIIA) was established to facilitate training, teaching, and research in the field of IA and to provide help to other organizations/agencies in conducting research in the fields of SIA, EIA, and HIA. The State SIA Authority, established by the Punjab Government, is housed at UIIA.  UIIA currently offers a post-graduate diploma course in SIA and has plans to start a five-year degree course in IA as well as various short-term training courses next session.

    IAIA looks forward to collaborating with UIIA-PUP! Find more information on all of IAIA’s Associated Organizations online. 


    6. Board minutes available

    Check out the latest IAIA activities and progress on the Strategic Plan in the minutes from the November 2016 IAIA Board of Directors meeting, posted now in the IAIAConnect Members group. Members can also access past Board meeting minutes by logging in as a member at www.iaia.org and clicking the “Members-Only Content” menu.


    7. Members in the news: Distinguished Associate

    La Academia Mexicana de Impacto Ambiental, A.C (Mexican Academy of Environmental Impact) recently granted public recognition as a “Distinguished Associate” to long-time IAIA member Julieta Pisanty-Levy for her contributions to the development and consolidation of the professional consultancy service in the field of EIA.
