Celebrating the Changemakers: Environmental Professionals Day 2025
Every day, environmental professionals work behind the scenes to protect the planet, safeguard communities, and shape a more sustainable future. On April 15, we celebrate Environmental Professionals Day—a moment to recognize the scientists, analysts, advocates, and policymakers who dedicate their careers to balancing environmental, social, and economic needs.
Founded by the National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP) and the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA), this annual celebration honors those who work at the intersection of nature and society, ensuring that development is not just possible, but responsible.
April 15 also marks the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci, a visionary whose deep curiosity and scientific approach reflect the essence of environmental professionals. “Da Vinci was a master of many disciplines, including the sciences, making his birthday the perfect day to recognize environmental professionals” said Michael Mayer, NAEP President. “From scientists to policy experts, these dedicated individuals work tirelessly to uphold environmental, social, and public health standards, ensuring a balanced ecosystem and quality of life for present and future generations.”
“The intricate work of environmental professionals often goes unnoticed, but its impact resonates in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the communities we cherish," said Gary Baker, CEO of IAIA. “Now, more than ever, we need expert guidance to help identify hidden risks and unintended consequences, and today we celebrate their commitment and invite everyone to join us in expressing gratitude.”
