What to know about the new U.N. high seas treaty — and the next steps for the accord
After nearly two decades of planning and negotiations, members of the United Nations have agreed on an international treaty to protect biodiversity in international waters, which cover nearly two-thirds of the ocean. The agreement, finalized 4 March, lays the groundwork for global collaboration to tackle the ocean's persistent threats like biodiversity loss, pollution and climate change.

The FasTips series offers practical clarification on frequently asked questions and is particularly useful for a quick look when there is no time for investigating or reviewing others' experiences or formal guidances.
IAPA publisher updates guidelines to address ethics of AI authorship
Taylor & Francis, the publisher of IAIA’s journal, Impact Assessment and Project Appraisal, has released a statement to the effect that LLMs (Large Language Models) and AI tools such as ChatGPT and Bard do not meet the criteria for authorship and has updated its editorial policies on authorship and acknowledgement to reflect this position.
15-minute cities: What are they and how do they work?
City planners say we have to rethink the way we build urban areas to make them more sustainable, healthy and just. The so-called 15-minute city is one idea. The idea behind the concept is to build cities in such a way that most daily necessities and services are located within a 15-minute walk or bike ride. But are they viable?

Malaysia palm oil, rubber farmers file EU petition opposing deforestation law
Malaysian palm oil and rubber smallholders on 15 March filed a petition to the European Union to protest against a new law preventing imports into the bloc of commodities linked to deforestation risks. Indonesia and Malaysia, the world's largest palm oil exporters, have accused the EU of blocking market access for their palm oil.
