Bursaries available: A limited number of Conference Inclusiveness Bursaries are available. This bursary covers the registration fee and travel expenses for accepted applicants who identify as Indigenous persons, members of affected communities, or persons from under-represented populations or LDCs. Apply by 7 March 2022.

Training course #6 update: For the course "How to seamlessly connect EIA and EMS through improving communication, interaction, and partnership," trainer Jenny Pope will not be in Vancouver due to travel restrictions. She will pre-record her content, which co-trainer Behzad Raissiyan will share with participants, and will still participate remotely in the discussion and respond to questions.

IAIA Board of Directors election results
Join us in welcoming President-Elect/Director Edith Birungi Kahubire and Board Directors Miguel Repas Goncalves and Kiichiro Hayashi to the IAIA Board. They join a dedicated, international group of existing Board members, and we look forward to working with them in forwarding IAIA’s mission and vision. Online training: Registration open
Two online training courses start next month: Effective engagement in impact assessment: Working to international good practice standards and More effective impact assessment: Tools for stronger writing and clearer argument. Similar in concept to IAIA's traditional pre-conference training courses, these online courses will be broken down into smaller segments taking place over a two- or three-week time frame.

AGM announced
IAIA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place virtually at 13:00 GMT on 21 April 2022. All IAIA members are encouraged to participate in this annual business meeting of the Association; access details will be shared closer to the event.

Eleven additional governments commit to New Plastics Economy
Eleven new governments have announced today at the One Ocean Summit that they will join the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment. Led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme, the Global Commitment has united governments and organizations behind a common vision of a circular economy for plastics.
Failure to prevent pandemics at source is “greatest folly,” say scientists
Preventing future pandemics at source would cost a small fraction of the damage already caused by viruses that jump from wildlife to people, according to scientists. The scientists heavily criticize approaches by global bodies and governments that focus only on preventing the spread of new viruses once they have infected humans, rather than tackling the root causes as well.
