Session recordings from IAIA's October virtual symposium "Our Interconnected World: Impact Assessment, Health, and the Environment?" are available for purchase, either by topic track (US$50 for IAIA members; US$90 for non-members) or in a discounted bundle of all four tracks (US$150 for IAIA members; US$325 for non-members).
With four sessions in each track and over 17 hours of content, this symposium featured a variety of live and pre-recorded conversations on Climate Change, Health, Resilience, and Other Key Issues.

IAIA21 registration closed; schedule posted IAIA's first virtual annual conference kicks off next week. IAIA21 will welcome nearly 1200 delegates from over 80 countries with 16 live sessions, 250+ on-demand presentations, daily virtual coffee breaks, tradeshows, and more. Online PDP course available IAIA’s 12-week “Foundations of Impact Assessment” online course will be held from 14 June through 3 September 2021. Participants start and complete the course within this period according to the schedule they arrange with their trainer. Registration is open through 4 June or until filled. Register early! Spaces often fill prior to the registration close date. Limited bursaries are available but typically fill within days.
IAIA staff remote offices closed 24-31 May IAIA staff continue to work remotely to provide uninterrupted member service to the greatest extent possible, so please email if you need to reach us, as we are not in the office to take phone calls. Note that all IAIA remote offices will be closed from 24-31 May 2021.
New handbook on cumulative IA to be published The Handbook of Cumulative Impact Assessment, edited by IAIA member Jill A.E. Blakley (University of Saskatchewan, Canada) and Daniel M. Franks (University of Queensland, Australia), will be released this month and is available for pre-order now.
Free guidance document on marine biodiversity available A new guidance document for determining spatial scales of analysis for marine biodiversity with a focus on seascape and ecologically appropriate areas of analysis has just been released by IAIA member Neil Cousins. It is available for free download from Bluedot Associates Ltd in the UK.
Online proceedings from New Zealand SIA conference posted IAIA Affiliate NZAIA’s recent conference on “Assessing social impacts for improved decision making” has online proceedings available. Check out the presentations and posters here.
Innovative platform shares forest data in 6 languages The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN recently unveiled the language adaptations of its open data platform on forests. First launched in English in July 2020, and now translated in Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, and Russian, the platform aims to bolster global efforts to tackle climate change, halt deforestation, and increase sustainable forest management.
UN launches the first artificial intelligence tool for rapid natural capital accounting An artificial intelligence tool that will make it easier for countries to measure the contributions of nature to their economic prosperity and well‑being was recently launched by the United Nations and the Basque Centre for Climate Change.
Global glacier retreat has accelerated Scientists have shown that almost all the world's glaciers are becoming thinner and losing mass—and that these changes are picking up pace. This is the first study to include all the world's glaciers—around 220,000 in total—excluding the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets.
