IAIA January 2016 e-news Table of Contents: 1. IAIA16 updates 1. IAIA16 updates IAIA16, “Impact Assessment: Resilience and Sustainability,†will be held 11-14 May 2016 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. For more information, visit the conference website. Be sure to include #iaia16 whenever you share information about IAIA16 on social media. Important Dates: Early bird and presenting author registration deadline: Early bird rates for IAIA16 run through 5 February, so register soon to take advantage of those discounted rates. Presenting authors and session chairs must also register by 5 February in order to be listed on the program. New Young Professionals Bursary: IAIA is pleased to announce the new Young Professionals Bursary. For the next five annual conferences, up to 15 bursaries will be given each year to young professionals in the form of waived conference registration fees. Potential candidates are those who have never attended an IAIA annual conference, are 30 years of age or younger and currently employed in a field related to impact assessment at the time of application, and are living and working in a country listed under the World Bank’s GNI (gross national income) categories of low-income economies, lower-middle-income economies, and upper-middle-income economies. Full application instructions and award details are posted online. Bursary applications are due 15 February. Student Fee Waiver program: The application deadline for the student fee waiver program has been extended through 11 March. This program allows up to 20 students a waived conference registration fee in exchange for providing in-kind services on-site at the conference. Program details and application instructions are posted online. Sponsorship opportunities: IAIA is currently seeking sponsors for the IAIA16 conference. Download the Sponsorship Opportunities brochure in English or Japanese on the IAIA16 sponsorship site to find out the various ways your company can reach out to over 700 environmental professionals from 80+ nations. 2. IAPA Editor expressions of interest due 31 January IAIA is looking to recruit an editor (or editorial team) for our journal, Impact Assessment & Project Appraisal (IAPA). If you are an enthusiastic, energetic team player who wants to work with an exceptional group of international experts from across the globe, then we want to hear from you! Download the Call for Expressions of Interest document for the details of this position, including the application requirements. The new editor (or team) would ideally commence full duties from early to mid-2016. Expressions of interest are due by 31 January 2016. New year, new look: The new IAIA website We are pleased to introduce the new IAIA website – from top to bottom, this complete website redesign couples a clean, modernized look with an improved user experience that is straightforward and informative.
While these are significant changes, consider this unveiling to be just the first step of our website transformation. In the coming months, we will work closely with our special-interest sections and committees to review and upgrade all the content, too. Expect new publications and videos, updated resources, and fun features to pop up throughout the year ahead. Members in the news: New book IAIA member Rabel Burdge has updated and revised his SIA textbook, The Concepts, Process and Methods of Social Impact Assessment, for 2016. The book covers the background and development of SIA as well as actual case studies and includes international principles for doing SIA. Upcoming training: Sustainability in Major Projects IAIA members Jenny Pope, Angus Morrison-Saunders, and Alan Bond will be involved in a training lab on "Sustainability in Major Projects" from 4-5 April 2016 at the University of Cambridge in the UK. The course, organized by the Institute for Sustainability Leadership as part of the Leadership Lab series, will bring together executives to learn about the processes and tools that companies need to incorporate sustainability into major infrastructure projects. Participants will hear from academic and industry experts on how sustainability can be incorporated into project planning, and will work through real-life case studies to understand the opportunities and challenges involved, and to explore the use of appropriate processes and tools to aid project decision-making.
