    Apply by 6 January for an IAIA20 Conference Inclusiveness Bursary. Up to 15 bursaries will be given to representatives of Indigenous Peoples, affected communities, and under-represented populations in the form of a reduced registration fee.

    All sessions and paper and poster abstracts accepted for IAIA20 are now online. Check them out now, and then register to attend the conference by 12 February to take advantage of the Early Bird registration rates.

     

     

     

    Webinar on disasters, conflict, and impact assessment

    As highlighted by Hurricane Dorian and the conflict in Syria, disasters and conflict can have significant negative impacts on the environment and the people living in those environments. A free one-hour webinar on 19 December will cover why considering disasters and conflict is critical to assessing impact.

    Animated videos advance adoption of agriculture techniques. In remote areas with low literacy rates, showing animated videos in the local language demonstrating agricultural techniques results in high retention and adoption rates of those techniques.

    Climate change talk OK during disaster events. A global consortium of leading climate change research universities is coming together as a new survey reveals the attitudes of Australians to climate change.

    Looking at tropical forests through new eyes. This new application -- to assess drivers of forest carbon cycling – can measure plant diversity in even the most remote tropical forests to help better understand how they will respond to climate change.

    Scientists say Europe must do more to protect its rivers and lakes. More than 5,500 scientists have signed an open letter saying that Europe is facing a severe threat to its freshwater biodiversity and must do more to protect its rivers and lakes.

    Where should the world focus its ocean conservation efforts? Countries around the world have committed to protecting 10 percent of the planet’s coastal and marine areas by 2020 as part of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. A new map shows areas of the ocean that conservationists agree are in need of protection.
